School counselors discuss issues

Faith Smith, a counselor at Tyrone Elementary School and president-elect of the Fayette School Counselors Association, recently attended the 50th Georgia School Counselors Association Conference in Atlanta.

The theme of the conference was “Coming full circle — guiding into the new millennium.” Topics discussed included legal and ethical concerns for counselors, the importance of a positive attitude, prevention of bullying and sexual harassment and violence prevention in the schools.

The conference provided an opportunity for counselors to learn new techniques and improve their skills in meeting the challenges of the diverse student population in Georgia.

Smith also is serving as public relations co-chairman for the Georgia School Counselors Association.
