The lighting of Southwest Christian Hospice's Tree of Light will highlight Fayetteville's holiday celebrations this year, which kick off Saturday.

The city's seventh annual Christmas Parade is at 4 p.m. with jolly man Steve Donaldson leading in his Santa persona. Best viewing is along LaFayette Avenue, Ga. Highway 85 south and Lanier Avenue.

Beauty queens, bands, fire trucks and more will join in the merrymaking.

Lighting of the tree begins at 5:30 with a musical introduction by the Fayette Youth Chorale, featuring 50 singers from Fayette and Coweta counties.

Each light on the Tree of Light represents a $15 donation to the hospice in memory of a loved one.

Coffee, hot chocolate, funnel cakes and other goodies will be available at the Gazebo during the parade and tree lighting ceremony.
