GYB
to make Fayetteville debut with 'The Nutcracker' The Georgia Youth Ballet Company, Fayette County's non-profit regional ballet company, will bring its production of E.T.A. Hoffman's The Nutcracker to Sams Auditorium Dec. 3, 4, and 5. Tickets are family priced this year, only $5 per ticket, in order to enable families to enjoy this holiday classic. Under the direction of Magadalena Maury, who has performed or produced the ballet for more than 25 years, the GYB's Nutcracker features more than 80 dancers from the area. This will be the first time that GYB has had an opportunity to book an auditorium in Fayette County. We would like the people of Fayette County to get to know this talented company, remarked GYB's Terri Smith. They are known all over the Southeastern United States but not at our own back door. For the second year, senior members of the GYB will play all the roles. They have reached a level of technical and artistic abilities that enable them to do professional roles, says Maury. This past week, New York choreographer Elie Lazar from the Joffrey Ballet commented that the young company is extremely talented and very capable of professional roles. He has choreographed a new ballet just for the GYB and said he was impressed with the level of difficulty these young dancers were able to achieve. The Nutcracker is known for its lavish sets and scenery, beautiful costumes and dances for people of all ages. From a fierce battle between soldiers and rats, to the energetic Russian dance to the exquisite Waltz of the Flowers, The Nutcracker is sure to please all. For information on tickets phone 770-716-9858. Performances are Dec. 3 at 8 p.m., Dec. 4 at 2:30 ad 8 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2:30 p.m. This will be a special Scout performance which includes a backstage tour and a special commemorative patch.
