Holiday happenings roll into Newnan

Residents eager to get the holidays off to a fun start need to head to downtown Newnan this Sunday.

The annual Holiday Open House in Newnan's shopping district has become a holiday tradition that local residents anticipate and newcomers should discover.

This year's event runs from 1-5 p.m. and features more than 20 unique shops and restaurants in the downtown business district.

Downtown will be dressed up in its holiday finery, so get in the Christmas spirit and join in for a merry event complete with holiday refreshments, festive door prizes, home decorating ideas and more.

As a special added treat, Santa will visit with children at Panoply Interior Design.

From 2-3 p.m., Rita McGuffey, artist of the 1999 collectible Coweta Christmas ornament, will sign her creations at the Carnegie Building. Ornaments are $6 and ornaments from previous years will also be on sale.

At 4 p.m., the Newnan-Coweta Music Guild presents “A Little Afternoon Music” in the First United Methodist Church sanctuary at 33 Greenville St. The concert features David Kinrade, organ; Martin Ruby, trumpet and recorder; Roberta Jacobs, cello, and Dennis Marsengill, trumpet. The concert is free.
