Coverdell gets seat
on Finance Committee U. S. Sen.
Paul Coverdell, R-Ga., will replace the late Sen.
John Chafee, R-R.I., on the prestigious Senate
Finance Committee.
Coverdell is
trading his position on the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee for a position which he says
will give Georgians a stronger voice on tax
policy.
The Senate
Finance Committee controls three-fourths of the
federal budget, and is the lead Senate committee
on tax policy, trade, Social Security, and other
revenue-related policies, he said.
