County's unemployment rate is lowest in region

Fayette County's unemployment rate is the star of the region.

In figures released late last week by the Department of Labor, the county's unemployment rate for September remained unchanged at 2 percent.

Last September, the county's unemployment rate was 3.8 percent. The county's drop mirrors the rest of the Atlanta region. Metro Atlanta's unemployment rate of 3.2 percent was the lowest ever recorded in September, according to State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond.

“I am pleased that low unemployment and steady job growth continue in the Atlanta area. But, this has resulted in a tight job market and shortage of skilled workers in some industries. The labor shortages could lead to bidding wars, as employers compete for skilled workers, and drive up salaries and lead to an inflationary period,” Thurmond added."
