Kenneth Steele will move into the mayor's chair in Fayetteville after winning in Tuesday's municipal election. Steele received 60.3 percent of the votes cast, 737, while opponent Paul Oddo received 39.7 percent, or 486 votes. A runoff is set for Tuesday, Nov. 16 in the Post 1 City Council race in Fayetteville, as no one among three candidates received a majority of the vote in Tuesday's municipal elections. Clyde Avery, who received 509 votes, or 42.9 percent of the 1,187 votes cast, faces Bill Talley, who garnered 466 votes, or 39.3 percent. Talley is chief financial officer for a Pine Mountain bank. Avery is a broker for Southeastern Properties Inc., a commercial property management firm. The third candidate in the race, Paul Carter, received 212 votes, 17.9 percent of the total. The runoff will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16. As in the election, voting for the runoff will be in the city's Old Depot, not in residents' usual precinct locations.
