Minor fire at McIntosh Wednesday

By MONROE ROARK

A small fire at McIntosh High School Wednesday afternoon caused the evacuation of all of its students for a brief time but was handled without incident.

According to Capt. Ed Eiswerth of the Peachtree City Fire Department, firefighters responded at about 1 p.m. to a report of a fire in the chemistry lab. The fire was actually in a second-floor stairwell, apparently caused by a light fixture.

The entire student body had already been evacuated when firefighters arrived, and the fire was actually extinguished by the school resource officer and other school staff.

The Fire Department searched and ventilated the entire building before turning it back over to school officials.

Damage to the stairwell was minimal, Eiswerth said, and the fire did not spread to any other part of the building.
