J.C.
Booth to host Academic Bowl J.C. Booth Middle School is gearing up to host about 180 students, teachers, coaches and supporters for a regional Academic Bowl Thursday, Nov. 11. The quiz bowl-type competition starts at 4 p.m. and ends promptly at 7 p.m. The logistics of organizing and running the program is being handled by the school's Beta Club. Each competition consists of three rounds, 20 20-point toss-up questions each, plus 20-point bonus questions for the team answering the toss-up question correctly. Scores are kept throughout the year in two categories; one is a win-loss record, the other is a total points accumulated by the team. Last year, Booth tied for first with two other schools for win-losses, and came in first for total points accumulated during the season. There are five members on a team, and they ring in with buzzers. Teams may take 10 players to a competition and may rotate players at the halfway point after 10 questions during a round or between rounds.
