SCAT gets big performances from swimmers

The Southern Crescent Aquatic Team (SCAT) recently competed in the War Eagle Invitational Swim Meet recently in Auburn, Ala. They gave a dominant performance with many top and top ten finishes.

Joseph Redmon, swimming in the Men's 11-12 division, took first place in 11 of the 12 events he swam in. The only event that he didn't place first in was the 50 yard freestyle, in which he placed second. He earned Top 16 National times in the 100 yard freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley, as well as in the 50 yard butterfly and the 200 yard individual medley.

“Joseph just had a phenomenal meet,” said SCAT head coach Caren Betts. “He was pretty amazing.”

Ross Bittner also turned in a strong showing for SCAT. He finished first in the Men's 13-14 200 yard backstroke, second in the 200 yard individual medley, third in the 100 yard backstroke, fourth in the 100 yard freestyle, and fifth in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle. Bittner earned AAA times in all of those events.

Other swimmers earning top 10 finishes included: Lauren Cartwright, women's 11-12, sixth in the 200 yard freestyle; Matt Kelley, men's 10 and under, seventh in the 50 yard freestyle and eighth in the 100 yard freestyle; Cartwright, Elizabeth Kelley, Katie Ham, and Erin Maher, sixth in the women's 11-12 freestyle relay; Jesse Bockkenek, Cartwright, Ham, and Maher, seventh in the women's 11-12 medley relay; Julie Glass, Samantha Currenti, Bailey Garrot and Cassandra Heimann, fifth in the women's 10 and under freestyle relay; and Garrot, Currenti, Whitney Huguelet and Ashton D'Hollosy, eighth in the women's 10 and under medley relay.

“We had several swimmers drop time in several events,” said Betts. “Overall, it was a good meet for the team.”
