Cycle group rides to
aid of children's home By CAROLYN CARY
Contributing Writer
The
Gold Wing Road Riders Association, chapter P,
Fayetteville, recently took a van load of school
supplies and toys to the Thornwell Home and
School for Children in Clinton, S.C.
The
Presbyterian home houses children from Georgia,
Florida and South Carolina. Thornwell is a home
for 110 children ranging in age from 18 months to
19 years.
Eight
members of chapter P rode their Honda motorcycles
to the school with two of them
four-wheeling it; that is they drove
a van holding all the school supplies collected
from members. Three members had attached a
motorcycle trailer to also hold the supplies.
Chandra
Coleman, director of sponsorship for Thornwell,
said in a letter to the chapter, When we
had sorted out all the school supplies, we found
that we will have enough to get us through the
rest of the school year.
Chapter
P director Bob Wakeham said, We try to
participate in as many charity events as we can.
This summer, we participated in the Ride for Kids
Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, an organization
devoted to discovering the cause and cure of
childhood brain tumors.
Our
chapter was the second highest contributor in
Georgia, turning in over $15,000 for this annual
event.
Chapter
P meets each third Saturday night at the IHOP in
Fayetteville. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the meeting
starts at 7 p.m. For information phone Wakeham at
678-364-1862.
