Price to be honored today

Representatives of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia will present a Legislative Service Award to state Sen. Rick Price of Fayetteville today during the Fayette County Commission's monthly work session.

He will receive a framed print of the state Capitol, commissioned by ACCG and painted by artist Phyllis Higdon.

According to ACCG director Jerry Griffin, the award recognizes Price as “one of Georgia's most effective legislators,” and is bestowed annually on legislators who show “leadership and appreciation for the concerns counties and county taxpayers face.”

Price, who represents part of Coweta County and parts of Fayette and Spalding counties, is specifically singled out for handling legislation extending the deadline for local cities and counties to comply with new service delivery cooperation rules, and for enacting a “redemption clause” that lifts sanctions against counties that haven't complied, as soon as they do comply.

ACCG is a lobbying and networking organization of Georgia county governments.

The meeting will be at 3:30 p.m. at the County Administrative complex, 140 Stonewall Ave., Fayetteville.
