Daylight Saving Time begins Oct. 31, but for many the extra hour of sleep will not be much help. In fact, about 25 percent of the American population suffer form sleep disorders. To help ease sleep problems, the Atlanta Center for Sleep Disorders at Atlanta Medical Center will conduct free snoring assessments. The Georgia Public Health Assocation, a statewide organization of more than 500 public health officials, recetly had its annual convention in savannah. At the meeting, the association established the Al Dohany Memorial Award, which will annually honor members who demonstrate extensive community involvement while working in public health.

This award was established to honor former Fayette County resident Al Dohany. Dohany had served the community in public health as an environmentalist in Fayette and Butts counties and most recently as a community health planner with District 4 Health Services working in many counties of the district. He was known throughout the district and his communtiy through the use of magic to get the health message out to children and adults alike.

Dohany was killed in an automobile accident June 11 while en route to a planning meeting serving other communities.

Present to receive the award was Dohany's wife, Jean, and his son, Tim.

Professor Zhao, a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, has joined Benchmark Integrative Medicine in Peachtee City. Zhao will provide consultations on Chinese medicine with recommendations for problem-specific herbal therapy. He will have an extensive inventory of Chinese herbs available for those wishing to embark on an herbal therapy program.

In addition to his herbal therapy, Zhao will provide moxibustion and tui na (acupressure massage), along with other forms of Chinese medicine. These methods have been used for centuries to treat pain and other health problems. Zhao trained at the Tianjin Medical College of Health Workers, Tianjin China. Trish Gurney, a certified massage therapist, has recently opened a practice in Lifeboat Medical Associates, Dr. Sara A. O'Heron's office.

Gurney is certified in a style of massage that seems new and different in this country but dates back thousands of years to China. Her teacher, Dr. Wei Fu Zhong, has come to this country to train practitioners in massage in a series of exercises for health known as chi kung.

The emei accupointing style has been successful in treating such ailments as TMJ, fibromyalgia, sinus trouble, muscular aches, and chronic neck and backpain, according to Gurney.
