Go bowling for the cure

More than 800 participants from more than 160 businesses and organizations will lace up their bowling shoes and take to the lanes around metro-Atlanta to help raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Saturday, Nov. 13.

This annual event is the foundation's largest fall fund-raiser and is expected to gross over $160,000 for cystic fibrosis research and education.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults nationwide. CF causes the body to produce a thick, sticky mucus that leads to fatal lung infections and impedes digestion. Although this disease has no cure, many significant developments have been made with the dollars raised from events like this. Genetic therapies and new treatments currently being tested could lead to a cure or control soon.

Bowl for Breath is an easy and fun way to help the foundation. Bowlers invite their friends, family and co-workers to join their teams or to sponsor them. Each bowler collects sponsorship or pledges. Then Saturday, Nov. 13, bowlers will gather at nine centers around the city, including Forest Park lanes in Forest Park and Junction Lanes in Newnan, and Bowl for Breath.

Bowlers can win prizes, including t-shirts General Cinema movie passes, electronics and a top prize of a Club Med vacation including airfare, courtesy of American Air Lines. You don't have to be a good bowler to help kids with CF; you just need a good attitude and the desire to have fun.
