Fayette Community Hospital recently celebrated its two-year anniversary.

Having opened its doors for the first time in fall 1997, the hospital at that point was the first new hospital in the metro Atlanta area in 14 years. Now embarking on its third year of service, the hospital is an indispensable member and faithful supporter of the Fayette community.

The hospital has increased its productivity and performance each year, often doubling the results from the previous year. In two years, Fayette Community Hospital has had 3,503 admissions, 22,766 emergency room visits, and 26,405 out patient visits. The hospital has employed 510 workers, has 364 physicians on staff, and 260 people volunteering their time. In two years, 37,881 radiology diagnostic tests and 32,187 lab tests have been performed.

“We've had an amazing two years,” said Darrell Cutts, CEO of Fayette Community Hospital, “and we look forward to providing superior health care and health-related services to the community for many years to come.”

Employees celebrated the two-year anniversary with a fun-filled day of food, games and fellowship. They had a chance to dunk the hospital CEO, dance to the sounds of the band Identity Crisis, win door prizes, play volleyball, and get their face painted. Many people played a significant role in the success of the birthday party, as well as with the hospital over the past two years.

Not only has the hospital grown over the last two years, but it also plans further expansion to meet the area's growing health care needs. The Diagnostics Department has extended its hours to accomodate patients who need to schedule appointments outside of working hours and has expanded the services available to include angiograms, arteriograms and diagnostics-directed biopsies.

Fayete Community Hospital also has added a bone density scanner and a mobile MRI unit recently and is adding two new operating rooms to support more than 430 surgeries a year. In addition to the physical expansion of the hospital and its equipment, a new form of treatment called interventional radiology also is now available.

Interventional radiology is less invasive than traditional surgery. Through the use of imaging machines, physicians “see” inside the body while they guide narrow tubes, or catheters and other small instruments, through the blood vessels to the site of a problem. The many benefits of this type of surgery include lower cost, less recovery time, shorter procedure time and fewer risks.

Fayette Community is a not for profit subsidiary of Piedmont Medical Center and member of PROMINA Health System. It is on Ga. Highway 54 in Fayetteville and offers a number of services including 24-hour emergency care, critical care, physical therapy and comprehensive outpatient services.
