Lots of big games to be played in Georgia this weekend

There is a positive vibe that has begun to flow. It seems to radiate in the air, an era of good feeling that could translate into wins all over the state.

This Friday night's football games will be interesting to say the least. Our three local AAAA teams have some big games this weekend that may have playoff implications. Fayette County (3-4) will host Upson Lee (3-4) and try to get to .500 in front of a homeoming crowd, while McIntosh (1-6) hosts the Griffin Bears (3-4). East Coweta (5-2), winners of five in a row will travel to face LaGrange (2-5). The Grangers played Lovejoy very close last week and will certainly be up for a game with the Indians.

In AAA, Starr's Mill and Sandy Creek are both 5-1, with huge games this weekend. The Panthers will travel to meet Jones County (4-2), while Sandy Creek visits Woodward Academy (4-2). Starr's Mill's Panthers should not be hanging their heads about last week's overtime loss to Mt. Zion and must come out and prove that they deserve their record and a shot at the playoffs. Sandy Creek continues to play well and must beat Woodward, winners of two in a row, to keep pace with the region's other top teams.

The two local A teams, Landmark Christian and Northgate, also have some big games this weekend. Landmark (0-6) is still searching for a first victory, and who better to get it against than the other 0-6 team, Temple. Northgate (3-3) is still in the playoff hunt and if they can upset Bremen (4-3) this week, they should have a good shot at securing a playoff spot.

In other sports to be played this weekend, the local major league baseball team, The Braves, have made the World Series. They will face the New York Yankees starting this weekend from Turner Field. They are expected to sell 3,000 standing room tickets before each game for $25. It might be worth it to go down to the stadium and give it a shot.

As for the prediction, the Braves have just gotten out of a war with the Mets. Yankee Stadium will most likely not be as hostile an environment and there should also be fewer close games. New York's middle relief leaves a lot to be desired and all the Braves really need right now is a few days off. Braves in six.

Also in college football, go with Georgia over Kentucky and Alabama over Tennessee.
