Peachtree City, with some help from Pathway Communities and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, honored one of its own last week by proclaiming Oct. 12 to be “Jerry Peterson Day.”

Peterson, who has served for 22 years as vice president of planning for Pathway and its predecessors, Peachtree City Development Corp. and Garden Cities Corp., received a proclamation from Mayor Bob Lenox at the Fayette Chamber's Business After Hours, hosted by Pathway.

Lenox pointed out that Peterson's knowledge of land planning, as well as his commitment to the goals of Peachtree City's land use plan, helped shape both the functionality and the aesthetics of the 40-year-old community.

Peterson also is credited with the identification, selection and dedication of natural areas, open spaces and greenbelts in the city, including what is now known as Flat Creek Nature Area, Line Creek Nature Area and Stoneacre.

In addition to the “Jerry Peterson Day” proclamation, Peterson was honored by having his name added to one of the city's nature facilities, now known as the “Jerry Peterson Flat Creek Nature Center.”
