Coweta County has added another plum to its industrial mix. Officials confirmed that Waccamaw/Home Place would be opening a new distribution center in the county next spring. The 200,000-sq. ft. center is under construction in the county's Creekside Industrial Park near Interstate 85 and will employ nearly 120 people by next June. Waccamaw/HomePlace is a South Carolina-based home furnishings retailer and formed as a new company earlier this year when the two companies merged. The Coweta facility is set to serve as a distribution point for stores in Georgia and other Southeastern states, said officials at 21st Century Coweta, who helped lure the company to the county. It's good to have a nationally known name locate here. It's going to be a great industry, said 21st Century Coweta President Scott Frederick. The investment to the county from the new center is pegged at more than $20 million, with nearly $8 million being paid for the land and construction costs of the new building. The announcement of the distribution facility is the first since Coweta County purchased the remaining land in the Creekside and Shenandoah industrial parks late this summer as a mechanism to draw more industries into the county. Officials said negotiations were underway with Waccamaw/HomePlace before the county purchased the land.
