Movies

Opening Friday

The Omega Code — A movie, bropught to you by the good people at Trinity Broadcast Network. The raprture has come and it is time for people to rise up and stop Satan in God's name. The plot is very similar to the Left Behind books, and the film made a killing in limited release last week. The cast is Hollywood caliber and the buzz has been pretty good. Acceptable for the whole family. Rated PG.

Now Playing

Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland — Elmo searches for his blanket in the world beneath Oscar's trash can. It is a place I have always wanted to go myself. I think you all know my feelings on the Muppets. Rated G.

American Beauty — Write to your local theater and tell them to dump stuff off of two screens and get this film. Hysterically funny, touching, and real. There will be no better movie this year. Rated R.

Blue Streak — Martin Lawrence plays a jewel thief who passes as a detective. If Eddie Murphy can do police comedy, Martin can do police comedy. I hear this is pretty good. Rated PG-13.

Double Jeopardy — Have you seen the preview for the number one movie in America? If you have, you pretty much know where this one is headed. Ashley Judd plays the wrongly accused wife and Tommy Lee Jones is the pursuant who really wants to help her. This movie has been number one for three weeks. Wow. Rated R.

Drive Me Crazy — Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa/Sabrina) stars in this teen comedy. It looks pretty lame. Where have you gone John Hughes, our teens turn their lonely eyes to you. Rated PG-13.

Fight Club — Brad Pitt and Edward Norton star in this intense action-drama about members of a ...well, Fight Club, that progresses into scary terrorist acts. This movie is very good with an exceptional, Sixth Sense type plot twist. Careful though, it is brutal and bloody. Rated R.

For Love of the Game — If there's one thing that Kevin Costner does well, it's a baseball movie. This one is directed by Sam Raimi, a former wildman director known for the Evil Dead trilogy. He has toned down of late and become a seriously ambitious, yet still daring director. Rated PG-13.

Mystery, Alaska — The creator of Ally McBeal, The Practice and this summer's biggest crocodile movie - Lake Placid, David E. Kelly, now gives moviegoers an inspiring hockey movie. Who's gonna win? Rated R.

Random Hearts — Harrison Ford and Kristin Scott Thomas star in this suspense drama about two people who find a connection bewteen their spouses, whilse surrounded by political intrigue. Rated R.

Runaway Bride — Haven't seen it and I'm not too interested. You see, when I know how a movie is going to end, I don't wanrt to see it. If she doesn't go with Richard Gere at the end of the movie, I'll eat my hat. Rated PG.

The Sixth Sense — This is an incredible movie with one of the best endings in recent history. It is well acted, masterfully directed and ultra creepy without being ultra-blatant. Rated PG-13.

Stigmata — With the fall season, comes horror movies. This film stars Patricia Arquette as a woman posessed. Rated R.

Superstar — I am not a big fan of the take an SNL sketch and make it a 90 minute film idea, but Molly Shannon is funny and Wayne's World was suprisingly good. Flip a coin and go. Rated PG-13

Three Kings — Getting lots of good buzz, this movie has a solid cast, an intriguing young director, and a political message. There is violence, but none of it is excessive or unnecesary. Rated R.

Also Playing

Big Daddy — Adam Sandler comedy about a slacker who adopts a little boy to win his girlfriend back. Sweet, cute, and funny. I'd really like some old school Sandler comedy though. Billy Madison 2 anyone? Rated PG-13.

Blair Witch Project — This comes out on video very soon, but why not go to the dollar theater and check it out. It was pretty fun, albeit somewhat nauseating. Rated R.

Dudley DoRight — Brendan Fraser looks to continue making movies out of all the old cartoons. Next up: My Little Pony: Live Action. Rated PG.

The Generals' Daughter — John Travolta investigates misdeeds involving...The General's Daughter. This film was shot in Georgia. Rated R.

The Haunting — This was not scary and it was not good. Rated PG-13.

Inspector Gadget — It looked better than it really was, but it is fun for the whole family. Technically, you shouldn't ever see Claw's face, but...whatever. Rated PG.

The Iron Giant — An animated film that pays tribute to the classic Warner Brothers animation. Your kids should enjoy it and so should you. Rated PG.

Star Wars Episode 1 — This was a great movie and you just can't beat watching it for a dollar. Enjoy yourselves and May the Force be with you. Rated PG.

Tarzan — Disney didn't make a lot of noise about this movie, but it makes as big a splash as the best of them. It has a good story, nice songs, and incredible visuals. Rated G.

The Wood — A movie about best friends remembering the good times before a wedding. This is an MTV picture with a solid cast and decent reviews. Rated PG-13.

Universal Soldier 2 — In your video store there are two sequels to Universal Soldier, but this is the real one, meaning the one with Van Damme. Whatever. You've seen one Van Damme movie, you've seen them all. Rated R.

Wild, Wild West — Heralded as possibly the worst movie of the summer. Pray there is no sequel. Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline must be pretty embarrassed. As embarrassed as you can be while getting paid millions. Rated PG-13.?
