It's
never too late to join Boy Scouts, says
Michael Reese, district executive for the Flint
River Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
To
encourage boys who may have missed the initial
registration period, representatives from two
local Boy Scout troops and two Cub Scout packs
will be on hand Saturday, Oct. 23 from 12:30 -
2:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Library.
High
school-age boys and girls are invited to come and
check-out venturing, the newest facet
of the council's program. According to Reese,
venturing has replaced the traditional Explorers,
which has evolved over the years into career
experiences in areas such as law enforcement,
firefighting and paramedicine.
Venturing
was introduced in Fayette County about a year
ago, attracting boys from existing troops and
girls wanting an outdoor challenge. Two venturing
groups now exist. One focuses on golf and meets
at the Wendell Coffee Golf Center in Tyrone and
the other is a sailing group.
All
the rules and principles that apply to the Boy
Scouts of America also apply to venturing.
