P&Z sets vote on day care center

By DAVE HAMRICK
Staff Writer

Plans for a new day care center on Ga. Highway 54 west near downtown Fayetteville will be on the agenda for the city Planning Commission next week.

Commissioners will decide whether to approve the development plan during their monthly business meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

During last week's work session, commission members suggested that the day care center, planned for two acres at the front of a new office complex between Grady Avenue and Braxton Court, should be turned more parallel to Hwy. 54 so the playgrounds could all be in the rear.

But developers said the playgrounds are divided into different areas to separate older children from younger ones.

Also on the agenda Tuesday will be:

A new zoning category for mixed-use developments, and a mixed-use development seeking the new category. Robert Rolader is seeking PCD (Planned Community District) zoning for the 110-acre McElwaney property on Ga. Highway 54 at Tiger Trail (see related story.

Development plans and a request for a special exception to allow a National Tire and Battery shop at Ga. Highway 85 and Banks Road, in the new Eckerd/Applebee's shopping center under construction. In previous work sessions, commissioners have said they don't think the site is right for an auto repair business. No one representing the developers attended last week's work session.

A preliminary plat for phase one of Highland Park, tract two. The 12-acre, 16-home project is part of a larger neighborhood already under construction off Jeff Davis Drive south.

A request for variance from Jeff Betsill Homes for a lot in Pecan Ridge off Jeff Davis Drive south. The builder wants to be allowed to encroach 8.5 feet closer to the street than normally allowed, due to an error in surveying the property.
