Calvary Temple built on being 'inclusive'

“The Lord is inclusive,” says the Rev. Stan Littleton, Calvary Temple Assembly of God, “rather than exclusive. And for that reason, no person should be excluded from our church, or any church.”

The church was established in April 1992 with the Rev. Don and Lorene Barron as the founders. Its 50 members met at Booth Middle School for three years before moving into its present site on Robinson Road. Barron and members physically built much of the sanctuary themselves.

The church is a place for worship, learning, enrichment, friendship and a place for service, carrying out the words of Jesus Christ, “not to be ministered unto, but to minister.”

There is a ladies morning Bible study Tuesday mornings, there is a youth ministry Tuesday evenings, family night activities are on Wednesday evenings and include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and adult Bible studies; other ministries include rest home ministries and prison ministries.

The church has a three-phase master plan. The first phase was the current sanctuary, phase two will be a family life center, expected to take place about three years from now, and phase three will be a new sanctuary.

The pastor is the Rev. Stan Littleton, who has been with the church since March 1997.

He was born and reared in Birmingham, Ala. and was converted at the age of 17. A year later he felt a definite call into the ministry and entered Southeastern College in Lakeland, Fla. He graduated in 1982 with a degree in ministerial studies. After pastoring for four years, he entered the Springfield Seminary in Missouri. Littleton pastored a church in Missouri for eight years while completing seminary. He has served churches in Missouri, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

He met his wife, Darlene, while in college (she is the daughter of a United Methodist minister), and they are the parents of Nicholas, who attends McIntosh High School, and Sabrina, who attends Trinity Christian School in Sharpsburg.

The church is at 202 Robinson Road, just off Ga. Highway 54 east, Peachtree City; Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., morning worship is at 10:45 a.m. and the evening service is at 6 p.m. There is a special KIDS Club service for youngsters at 10:45 a.m.

The church can be reached at 770-486-8887.
