County taps local architect to manage its industrial parks

Coweta County has a new manager for its industrial parks.

Newnan architect Lewis “Buddy” Harrison was introduced to the Coweta County commissioners Tuesday as the man who would help market the Shenandoan and Creekside parks to industrial prospects.

The county recently purchased the remaining 900 acres in the industrial park, just off Interstate 85, for $13 million and conducted a large search for a manager.

Harrison thanked the commissioners for their support and said he plans to take over the job full-time in January.

“Coweta needs to take the lead in industrial development in the south Atlanta area. High tech and high quality industries are we want and what we need to keep the quality of life that we enjoy,” Harrison said.

Harrison attended Georgia Tech and worked for seven years with Denney Associates in Atlanta as a designer and project architect.

Since 1981, Harrison has been self-employed with his architectural firm of Harrison Architects in Newnan.

The new manager is very familiar with Coweta County and worked on a number of projects in the county including the senior center, the animal shelter, the Pine Road fairgrounds complex and the Ga. Highway 16 recreational complex.

Coweta County Commission chairman Lawrence Nelms was thrilled that Harrison accepted the county's offer.

“Mr. Harrison has worked closely with the county on a number of projects and his leadership abilities on those projects has been impressive to everyone working with him,” Nelms said.

“I want to make Coweta County the place where quality industry wants to locate,” Harrison said.

Harrison will start his new job in a few weeks on a part-time basis, before he moves into the job full-time in January.
