Brooks Coke bottles have arrived

By CAROLYN CARY
Contributing Writer

“The Coke bottles are in,” announced Brooks Town Councilwoman Caroline Smith at last week's town council meeting.

Commemorative Coke bottles were planned, designed and ordered a year ago as a means of obtaining additional funding for the Recreation Department, and 2,000 bottles were ordered. The pre-purchase price was $8 per bottle.

Due to various conflicts within the Coca-Cola Company, the four-month wait turned into 12 months.

If you have not picked up your order yet, they can be obtained the next two Saturday mornings at the Brooks Recreation Department.

Those who haven't ordered bottles may still be able to get them through the Recreation Department, but will have to wait until Nov. 1 to find out if any are left. City officials report that some of the bottles have arrived broken, and they won't know how many are available for sale until they've replaced all the broken ones.

After Nov. 1, phone 770-461-2896 for information on availability of additional bottles.

Smith said a collectibles dealer has told her that the bottles already have a collector's value of $50 per bottle.
