Exhibits and loal entries bring extra fun to the fair

A fair just isn't a fair if ribbons aren't being awarded and exhibits aren't being exhibited. The Fayette County Kiwanis Fair, running Sept.30 - Oct. 9 will have plenty of both.

There will be entries in horticulture and a canned goods competition featuring jams and jellies, as well as fruits and vegetables. Entries will also be accepted in arts and crafts. There will be clothing, painting, photography, jewelry making, and an assortment of other home crafts. Though the contests have decreased in popularity over the years, there won't be livestock or baking competitions, people continue to enter the remaining events. In fact, classes from the local schools are expected to enter as well.

Entries will register on Wednesday, Sept. 29. If you would like to enter, call 770-719-3530 for additional information. Ribbons and nominal prize money are awarded for first, second, and third prize.

As for exhibits that will be presented at the fair, many local businesses will be among the over 50 exhibitors showing their wares and services. Some of the exhibitors include Grill Works, Mary Kay, Home Depot, Tupperware, and Dazzle Skating. The Gideons will have an exhibit as will several other local churches. There will be several car dealerships showing off some models of cars, women's health information from Women's Medical Center, a caricaturist, and lazer engraving.

Certainly, the midway is the central aspect of any fair, but the exhibits and contests make the fair a complete and fulfilling event.
