New Tyrone
Subdivision By JOHN THOMPSON
Staff Writer
Curious
Tyrone residents may want to make the trek to
town hall Thursday night to get a glimpse at a
possible new subdivision for the town.
Joel
Cowan Jr. is asking the town's planning
commission to rezone approximately 287 acres near
the Windsong subdivision from its current
category of a two acre building lot to a one acre
minimum.
Town
manager Barry Amos said Cowan's plan calls for
building 169 houses on the tract located between
Ashland Trail and Line Creek on the town's
western border.
Since
the site features some wetlands and a lake, the
buildable area would only accommodate 169
building sites, Amos said.
Cowan
is also asking the planning commission for a land
map use amendment that would designate the
property residential, instead of its current
agricultural and forest listing.
If
the name of the applicant sounds familiar to you,
it should. Cowan is the son of Georgia Regional
Transportation Authority chairman and Peachtree
City founder Joel Cowan. GRTA was established by
Gov. Roy Barnes to find a solution to the
gridlock gripping the Atlanta region, and the
senior Cowan is a proponent of quality
development that will fit into a comprehensive
traffic plan for the region.
Thursday
night's planning commission meeting starts at 7
p.m. at Tyrone's town hall.
