Woodward Academy celebrates 100 years

Woodward Academy, one of the Atlanta area's oldest private schools, turns 100 years old this month. A Centennial Celebration kick-off is scheduled for this weekend, starting Thursday with a centennial display unveiling and lunch.

The school was recognized Tuesday on NBC's “Today Show” by weatherman Willard Scott during his birthday segment.

Celebratory events this weekend include shows, games and an academy-wide art show.

Woodward was founded by Col. John Charles Woodward as the Georgia Military Academy in 1900, a boarding school for boys. Today, Woodward is a coeducational say school serving 2,800 students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, with six schools on three separate campuses in metro Atlanta.
