LaLeche advocates set walk in Peachtree City

Peachtree City is this year's site for the annual La Leche's League walk for families.

Sponsored by the Southern Crescent Branch of the LLL, the walk will begin with registration Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater off McIntosh Trail and commence at 11 a.m., winding along the city's golf cart paths approximately one and two-thirds miles.

“The purpose of the walk is to promote awareness of breast-feeding,” said Ellen Pfundt, one of the organizers. While donations are not required for participation, contributions are appreciated. The group's fund-raising efforts are used for providing support in the form of written and oral information to mothers who breast-feed.

Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch, and stay for the children's activities, sponsored by local La Leche families following the trek. Tours of Flat Creek Nature Center, which is next to the amphitheater, also will be available.

The La Leche League has supported and encouraged mothers to breast-feed their children for more than 40 years. Proponents claim breast-feeding contributes to their babies' overall health and well being, while enhancing the overall mothering experience.
