Planners to vote
Tuesday on truck home parking ban By DAVE

New
restrictions on parking commercial vehicles at
home in Fayetteville will be a blow to working
people, says Kevin Adams.
Owner/operator
of a tractor-trailer rig, Adams told the city's
Planning Commission last week that he parks his
tractor at home regularly, and will have a hard
time making a living if the city tells him he
can't.
I
don't think this takes into account the needs of
the working man, said Adams. This is
going to totally change everything that I have to
do, he said.
Adams
said his neighbors have no problem with his
parking his truck on the cul-de-sac where he
lives, off Hood Avenue. He occasionally performs
minor maintenance on the truck as well, he added.
I
own that truck, and it's my responsibility, and I
pay all the bills for it, and it's critical that
I be able to bring it home to do that
maintenance, Adams said.
Commission
members said they aren't quite sure why the City
Council recently asked the Planning Department to
come up with a new law prohibiting the parking of
commercial vehicles at home.
I
really don't understand where this is coming
from, said commission member Kevin
Bittinger, adding that he hopes to get that
information before the commission considers a
vote on the ordinance next Tuesday.
I
want to see what's driving it, he said.
The
ordinance, if approved by both the Planning
Commission and City Council, would prohibit
parking of commercial vehicles in residential
areas. The Planning Commission is scheduled to
vote during its regular meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.
at City Hall.
