Survey helps amphitheater prepare for 2000

With the summer season winding down, it's time for the faithful patrons of the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater to have a part in selecting the performers that will make up the 2000 concert schedule.

Surveys were distributed at both of last weekend's shows, where Neil Sedaka was the featured performer. The final weekend of the season is Sept. 24-25 with Sha Na Na.

More than 90 musical acts, catering to virtually every musical taste, are listed on the two-page survey, which is given only to those who actually attend concerts at the amphitheater.

About 2,500 surveys have been turned in either at the two shows or in the days immediately following, according to amphitheater director Kristi Rapson. Since they are filled out by hand and must be tabulated by hand, it will naturally be some time before the results are in.

Patrons are being given until Oct. 1 to hand in their selections.

If your favorite group is not on the list, there is a space marked “Other,” but with a reminder that many big-time artists that would normally come to mind are simply too expensive.

“Please keep in mind that tickets for a concert with Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, the Beach Boys, Rod Stewart, Chicago, etc. would be approximately $150-750 each,” the statement reads.

The survey also gives patrons an opportunity to comment on such topics as the quality of sound and lighting at the arena; the helpfulness of ushers, security and ticket office workers; the overall quality of entertainment, and possible plans for purchasing tickets for next year.

Suggestions also are being solicited for helping control excessive talking among audience members at concerts, which has provoked several complaints recently.
