Ewing to run for Post 1 council seat

James Melvin Ewing will be running for the Post 1 seat on the City Council of Peachtree City, he said in a written statement released Thursday.

As of noon Thursday he had not officially qualified, although he said he would be doing so today. Incumbent Annie McMenamin has already qualified for the Post 1 race.

Ewing ran for City Council in 1997 and formerly served as chairman of the Water and Sewer Authority.

He spent more than 12 years as an engineer with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, four years as the civil engineering manager for the city of Macon and four years as head of his own engineering company in Macon. He has lived in Peachtree City since 1985.

He plans to primarily address five issues during the campaign, according to his press release: “the city's report card on development, the environment, management of our tax dollars, openness in city government, and last but not least, the integrity of our public officials in city government.”
