Steele announces
mayoral bid Ken Steele
has announced that he will be seeking the office
of mayor of Fayetteville in the upcoming election
Nov. 2.
Steele
has been involved in local government for a
number of years as a member of the Fayetteville
Planning and Zoning Commission, and for the past
five years as a city councilman.
Promising
a user-friendly city government at
the least possible cost, Steele said he believes
the city should strive to improve its quality of
life, not just maintain it.
We
should continually enhance our standards and
raise our goals so as to ensure that 20 years
hence Fayetteville will still be a community
where our children and grandchildren will want to
settle and raise a family, said Steele.
He
pointed with pride to the fact that the city has
lowered its property tax rate in each of the five
years that he has served on City Council, adding
that his goal is to eliminate property taxes
in the not too distant future.
With
the support of family and many friends throughout
the community, Steele said he looks forward
to a vigorous campaign this fall.
Steele
and his wife of 35 years, Debbie, a retired
school teacher, are long time residents of the
city. A Navy veteran of the Vietnam war, Steele
will soon retire from a 30-year career with Delta
Air Lines.
The
Steeles have three grown children and two
grandchildren
