Next week is the time to officially stake your claim for one of two City Council seats available in Peachtree City this fall. Qualifying begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. and concludes Friday, Sept. 17, at 4:30 p.m. at the city clerk's office at City Hall. Any registered voter 21 or older who has been a resident of Peachtree City for at least six months by election day (Nov. 2) is eligible. The qualifying fee is $180. Three residents have publicly declared that they will vie for the Post 2 seat being vacated by Jim Pace Chuck Lehman, Bruce Perlman and Dan Tennant. Pace announced early this summer that he would not seek a second term. In Post 1, Annie McMenamin is unopposed so far. City Council positions are numbered 1-4 for election purposes only. All posts are at-large, which means that each council member represents the entire city. All seats are held for four-year terms. Council members receive a salary of $6,000 per year. If a runoff is necessary, it will be Nov. 16. Deadline for voter registration is Oct. 4. More complete information on the city's election and voting procedures can be found at the official Peachtree City Web site at http://www.peachtree-city.org.
