Chiefs neeters flourish despite many injuries

The McIntosh High School volleyball team is hurting a little bit, literally. Co-Captain Heather Dockstader and setter Vanessa Contreras are both still out and Kara Nessing, another setter, is out three to four weeks with a fractured wrist.

Somehow, though, the Chiefs keep finding ways to win.

Two of those ways are Kelly and Katie Powers. Last week, Mcintosh had a meet with Newnan and Stockbridge. The Lady Chiefs defeated Newnan in three sets, 15-9, 10-15, 15-4. The Powers girls combined for 15 points in the Newnan match. Kathryn Murphy, filling the setter position, scored 12 and Stacey Quinn added five points.

That quartet played well in the match against Stockbridge, clobbering the Tigers in two sets, 15-1, 15-2. Katie Powers scored 12 points, Kelly Powers added four points, and Murphy and Quinn combined for eight points.

While McIntosh continues to do well, players certainly hope their injured players will return to the squad soon. The competition does not get easier for them and the playoffs seem to be right around the corner.

McIntosh faced the Fayette County Tigers and Douglas High School in a meet at Fayette County yesterday and will travel to the Cobb County Tournament this Thursday and Saturday.
