Hecht named to commission on sentencing of criminals

Gov. Roy Barnes has appointed state Sen. Greg Hecht to his Commission on Certainty in Sentencing.
Hecht’s district includes part of Fayette County.
The commission’s purpose is to ensure strong punishment for criminal offenders and to find greater predictability in sentencing, said sa spokesman from the governor’s office.
“The commission will hopefully find a no-nonsense manner in which to deal with violent offenders and give more consistent sentencing for all offenders,” said the spokesman.
“Sen. Hecht’s four years as an assistant district attorney, four years in representing a correctional institution, correctional officer and police officers, his membership on the board of the Regional law Enforcement Academy and his time on the Senate Corrections Committee and leadership in the General Assembly on law enforcement issues made him an obvious choice for the commission,” said Barnes.
Hecht is one of two state senators appointed to the commission.
