Fayette County firefighters battled a major house
fire late last week that left virtually nothing
untouched by flames.
Authorities responded just before 4:30 p.m. last
Thursday to 157 Graves Road, off Ga. Highway 92
north of Fayetteville, where they found visible
flames showing at the time of arrival. Two
automobiles parked near the garage also burned,
according to Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette
County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
A minimum of $100,000 in damage was sustained at
the residence. Firefighters were able to cut off
a portion of the east end of the house from the
flames, but that section still sustained heavy
smoke and water damage, Nelms said.
The cause of the blaze is still being
investigated. Although the house was occupied
when the fire began, there were no injuries or
fatalities.
Graves Road was blocked for about three hours
between Hwy. 92 and Gingercake Road due to the
location of the fire hydrant, which necessitated
hoses being strung across the street, but there
were no major traffic problems.
