The Heritage Church, whose heritage is based on the Evangelical, Reformed and Baptist theology, has just celebrated its tenth anniversary.

“Evangelical” refers to the heritage of the New Testament revelation of the core message of Jesus Christ concerning the “evangel” or good news. “Reformed” refers to the heritage of the teachings of the Lord and His apostles, which were recaptured at the time of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. “Baptist” refers to the heritage of the teaching of the New Testament as recovered by Baptist forefathers.

These theologies form the basis for what Heritage Church believes in as a church family.

The congregation first began to meet at Oak Grove Elementary School in April 1989, and moved into its current building in 1993. It enjoys a membership of 200 souls.

The pastor is the Rev. Steve Martin, who was born in Chicago and reared in Indiana.

He was 21 years old when he first felt a strong pull into the ministry. He graduated from Wabash College in Indiana, where he earned a BA in English. He then worked for Campus Crusade for Christ and the Worldwide Discipleship Association, which is headquartered in Fayette County.

Martin entered seminary in 1979 and graduated in 1981. He has served two churches in Fayette County.

He has been married to Cindy for 27 years, and they are the parents of Matthew, 25, a computer engineer who lives in Fayette County, and Sally Nance, 22, who lives with her husband in Greenville, S.C.

Asked what he would like to see among church people, Martin replied, “I would like to encourage all churches to go back and be faithful to the historical roots of the church.”

The church has a Bible study each Sunday at 9:45 a.m., the regular worship service is at 11 a.m., the youth groups are Sunday, 6 - 8:30 p.m.; Men's Spiritual Fitness Group meets each Tuesday at 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. at the pastor's home, and a ladies' morning fellowship and study is each Friday, 9:30 - 11 a.m.

The church is at 150 Lester Road. Turn south on Huiet Road, which is halfway between Fayetteville and Peachtree City off Ga. Highway 54. At the first four-way stop sign, turn left on Lester Road.
