One of the largest fairs in the state, the Powers Crossroads Festival, returns this weekend, making its 29th consecutive appearance.

Powers Crossroads is three festivals combined into one: The Festival of Craftsmen and Artists, The Festival of Food, and The Festival of Entertainment.

The Festival of Craftsmen and Artists will feature more than 300 participants representing 23 states. There will be more sculptors present than any year before, working with clay and iron as well as glass. Also in attendance will be painters, ceramic artists, woodworkers and seamstresses.

Each year the crafts and art festival grows, as participants realize that Powers Crossroads is a perfect venue to establish themselves as masters of their certain crafts.

The Festival of Food is sponsored by local businesses and organizations. On top of the usual festival fare, such as spiral potatoes and funnel cakes, there will also be full chicken dinners, desserts and an assortment of beverages. The food vendors will be near the Summerhouse Stage.

The Summerhouse Stage also will be the venue for the Festival of Entertainment. Local musicians, dancing groups and entertainers will take the stage to show off their talents.

The Bullsboro Bluegrass Band will be making its 29th consecutive appearance at the festival this year, while Brian McKenzie, an established musician both in Newnan and Nashville, will play his country song stylings. Wild Eyed Dreams, a band that plays top 40 hits, will play during the weekend and Sassy Seniors, a group of 50-plus ladies, will dance and clog on the Summerhouse Stage.

Powers Crossroads also features a completely supervised kids-only park. Most of the attractions in the park will be free but some of the attractions will require tickets. The park will be in section F of the festival venue.

Powers Crossroads will run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The festival grounds are 12 miles west of Newnan on Ga. Highway 34 West. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and military personnel and $2 for children 4-12.
