Moms in Touch pray for schools, kids

Moms In Touch (MIT) is a single-minded ministry with a simple mission — to pray for their children and the schools they attend. Once a week, a group of between four and 12 mothers gather at a participant's home for one hour of prayer.

Michelle Holder of Peachtree City, the Fayette County coordinator for MIT, said they follow a simple prayer format each week. “The leader chooses one attribute of God to focus on and we read Bible verses pertaining to that attribute,” she said.

A silent confession time follows and those gathered then pray for the specific needs of each of their children. “We also pray for their teachers, selecting a couple of different teachers a week.” Holder added.

There are a about a dozen prayer groups meeting throughout the county, and Holder said, after several years, they are attempting to get organized and get to know one another.

“I started a group at Huddleston three years ago, which has continued, and another group at Braelinn, where my children now attend school,” Holder said.

She emphasized that MIT is an interdenominational Christian gathering of mothers with the sole intent of praying together. “We are not political and do not endorse any school issues,” Holder said. “We don't proselytize nor do we solicit prayer requests.”

Holder learned about MIT from a radio broadcast. “It's an international organization which started 15 years ago,” she noted. Today, there are approximately 33,000 groups worldwide who, according to MIT organizers, “have been blessed with many answered prayers, strengthened faith and renewed hope. It is the goal of the ministry to have every public and private school, from preschool level through college, covered with prayer by an MIT group.”

An information session is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Braelinn Baptist Church. Phone 770-631-8868 for information.
