Georgia DOT Commissioner Wayne Shackleford recently announced approval of federal funding for the Temple-Clark corridor improvement project in Newnan. This corridor streetscape project includes upgrading and adding new sidewalks and curbing, designation of a bicycle route, pedestrian amenities, landscaping and streetscape improvements and Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility. This completed project will provide a scenic and user-friendly multi-use trail in Coweta County, said Shackleford. Transportation investments such as this one not only benefit the citizens of the county, but also benefit visitors. Up to 80 percent of the funds being used for this project have been provided by the Federal Highway Administration, with the local government funding the remainder of the total project cost. Half of the total funding will be distributed on Oct.1, 1999, with the rest becoming available Oct. 1, 2000. The local government project sponsor is responsible for implementing the project and obtaining federal reimbursement from Georgia DOT.
