Lady Chiefs start season 2-0

The McIntosh Lady Chiefs opened their season last week at home with two games, facing the East Coweta Lady Indians and the Berkmar Lady Patriots.

The Chiefs return four seniors to this year's squad, including pitcher Brooke King, first baseman Abby King, shortstop Brit Hardy and center fielder Candace Moore. Sophomore catcher Megan Mulcahy also rejoins the team this year.

In their first game, McIntosh hammered East Coweta 11-0. King allowed only one hit, while striking out 12 batters before the game was called in the fifth inning due to the run rule. The Lady Chiefs had a great second inning. Freshman Allison Zelinski drove in her first RBI for the team. Hardy, Mulcahy and Brooke King each drove in two runs in the win.

The next evening brought the Berkmar Patriots to town. King again took the mound and produced four strikeouts. McIntosh struck early with Mulcahy driving home Candace Moore. Freshman Renae Clark drove in two RBI, bringing both Britte Hardy and Abby King across the plate. McIntosh did not score again until the fifth inning when Mulcahy slammed a double and then scored on a passed ball.

The Lady Chiefs look forward to another great season of competitive softball. They have returned much of their power from last season and their new players are proving themselves productive very early on in the season.
