Red Cross still seeking workers for special corps

Recruiting for the 1999-200 AmeriCorps, American Red Cross Rapid Response Corps, is still open.

According to program administrator Deborah Freeman, recruiting will last until all 15 positions are filled. The new team will begin work Sept. 8.

Freeman explained that corps members are full-time employees earning $230 per week on a 10-month assignment. Once they complete the work they receive an educational grant of $4,725 that can be used to help pay off study loans or to finance college, graduate school or vocational training.

Members participate in community disaster education training programs, often working with school children and other citizen groups, and respond to local disaster assignments.

Among requirements, applicants must be at least 18 and available full-time including some weekends and evenings for ten months. Phone 404-575-3083 or e-mail americorps@arcatl.org for information.
