Town Council last week approved a $10,000 loan to
help run water lines down Brooklet Way.
Residents
of the street will pay half of the $20,950 cost
of the project, with the town Water Department
paying the rest, using the loan from the city.
If
residents sign on during the first 60 days of the
project, they can pay the town over a 24-month
period, interest free. After the line is
completed, those tapping on must pay their entire
share of $2,210 at one time. The amount
represents $1,300 for the line plus an additional
$900 tap-on fee.
The
water department will repay the loan over five
years, with interest.
In
other action, council members discussed a $10,000
grant received from Coweta-Fayette EMC to be used
to grade and sod an additional 13 acres of its
recreation land. The town is asking Fayette
County to use its grading equipment to assist in
the project. The work must be done by Jan. 1, or
the town will lose the grant.
Jean
Atkinson was approved as a new member of the town
water committee.
Dan
Langford Jr., councilman and chairman of the
cemetery committee, announced the resignation of
committee members Allen Putman and Rodney Carson
due to health reasons. The resignations were
accepted and two new members were appointed,
Kenneth Spaller and Al Hardy.
Council
also agreed to allow the cemetery committee to
hire Jerry Lynch at the rate of $10 an hour to
sell lots and to lay out lots as needed.
Elections
were announced for Tuesday, Nov. 2, with posts 3,
4 and 5 coming up for consideration. Those
wishing to qualify must do so at the county Board
of Elections office, 140 W. Stonewall Ave.,
Fayetteville. There is a qualifying fee of $15
and qualifying is Monday, Sept. 13 at 8:30 a.m.
through Friday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Candidates
must appear in person to qualify.
