Child safety seats checked this Saturday

The Fayette County Sheriff's Department's Traffic Enforcement Division, along with Fayette County Safe Kids and the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Occupant Safety Program, will be providing child safety seat technicians at the Back to School Carnival this Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Fayette County Library, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Child safety seats, on a national average, are found to be improperly installed 79.5 percent of the time. Surveys have also found that parents have an utmost concern about their children's safety when being transported in a motor vehicle. But the majority admit they are not very familiar with the proper installation and use of a child safety seat, even after reading the child safety seat manual.

Parents, grandparents and care givers are encouraged to come by the carnival and have their child safety seats inspected at no charge. Technicians will be available to answer questions and demonstrate the proper use and installation of child safety seats.
