Flegling Heritage church taking flight

One of the youngest churches in Fayette County is about to break ground on 77 acres of prime acreage in south Fayette County.

The Southwest Christian Church of East Point felt it important to plant a new church in the metro area and a study determined Peachtree City was the best place. Consequently, the Heritage Christian Church was formed and held its first worship service Easter Sunday 1998 at the Oak Grove Elementary School. A core group 75 people were in attendance. That membership has since increased to 180 members and while they are still meeting at Oak Grove Elementary, beginning Sept. 5 the church will meet in Braelinn Elementary School.

Construction on the first phase is expected to get underway by late fall at its site at the corner of Bernhard Road and Redwine Road. The multi-purpose building will contain 20,000 to 30,000 square feet and the “move-in” date is expected to be next June.

The senior minister is Greg Marksberry. He was born and reared in Williamstown, Ky. and first felt the pull into the ministry at the age of 12. By the age of 14 he was preaching at various churches throughout his county. He served a church while attending Cincinnati Bible College and graduated from there in 1988 with a B.A. in Christian Ministries.

After graduation he served the church fulltime for a year and then worked as director of admissions at Cincinnati Bible College for three years. The next five years he served as the senior minister at a church near Indianapolis.

In November, 1997 he was called to put together a brand new church in Peachtree City. “We took one look, and we knew we wanted to stay,” he said.

He and his wife, Eliana, have been married for 11 years and are the parents of Lydia, 6, and Luke, 3.

The church office is at 23 Eastbrook Bend, Suite 201, Peachtree City. It can be reached at 770-632-9948.

The services are Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for Bible School and Adult Bible Fellowship and at 10:45 a.m. for the worship celebration service.

Services will be at the Oak Grove Elementary School, 101 Crosstown Drive, for the last three Sundays in August. Beginning Sept. 5, services will be at the Braelinn Elementary School, 975 Robinson Road.
