MONROE ROARK
The City Council of Peachtree City struck down the most recent request for annexation, sending a message that it would require extraordinary circumstances for a precedent to be set in that area anytime soon. The city is under a moratorium on annexations, and council members said they are content to leave that in place for now. Bob Adams of Bob Adams Homes made the application on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Robert House, owners of a 12.52-acre tract next to Peachtree City and within the town limits of Tyrone. Debbie Loud, a representative of Adams, told the council that the land owners wished to change from a commercial to a residential zoning, which she thought was refreshing. Adams wished to build about four homes per acre on the tract. Adams had made a formal request that the city lift its moratorium on annexation, but Mayor Pro Tempore Annie McMenamin said that she saw nothing in this request to make her want to do so. Loud pointed out again the possibility that if the site is not annexed, it could receive commercial development under much different guidelines than what Peachtree City allows, but McMenamin maintained that she was not inclined to set a precedent here. Her motion to deny the annexation request carried unanimously. Adams said earlier this week that he was disappointed by the ruling, but he would not fight it and would not pursue it any further.
