Nearly $200,000 will have to be taken from Coweta County's general reserve fund to help fund the health insurance plan for its employees. That's the grim news that assistant county administrator Chuck Crawford delivered to the Board of Commissioners Tuesday afternoon. Crawford explained that the problem lies in an oversight by the company that oversees the county's self insured plan, Group Resources. Apparently, an employee at Group Resources put six months worth of bills from XpressScripts, the company that handles prescriptions for the program, in a drawer and didn't pay them. When the bills were discovered, the county received a bill for $143,000. I can't believe XpressScripts didn't say something before now, Crawford said. To pay the bills and get the insurance fund back in the black would require $200,000 from the general fund, he said. We're spending more than the premiums are paying for, he added. This is the second time this year the county has had to kick in funds to supplement the program. Earlier, the county contributed $72,000.
