Dog lover gives up
fight with county By DAVE HAMRICK

Dog
lover Lynn Henning is giving up in her fight with
the Fayette County government over its limit on
the number of pets each local family can own.
Due
to some health issues, I have chosen to comply
with the ordinance, Henning told The
Citizen this week, but... if the time comes
when I am back to myself, I would like to address
this issue again, she added.
Henning,
owner of Covered in Bloom Inc., a wholesale plant
business on Malone Road in south Fayette, had
vowed to keep fighting after the Fayette County
Commission denied her request last June for an
exception to a county law that sets a three-pet
limit.
County
law allowed three pets per home unless the owner
gets a kennel license and meets all the zoning
and architectural requirements for a kennel.
Henning
asked commissioners for a personal exemption for
the ordinance, and also suggested a change in the
law allowing more pets and requiring a permit fee
for any over three.
I'm
personally not willing to throw the ordinance out
the door, said commission Chairman Harold
Bost. It is there to keep down
nuisances.
Henning
looked into legal challenges, she said, but
facing health problems, she is now looking for
homes for some of her pets, particularly a
4-year-old sable border collie.
Her
children are still trying to decide whether to
keep a Siberian husky or a great Dane, she added.
My
children and I have been deeply impacted by this
situation, said Henning. It is very
tough to have to ask a 5-year-old and an
8-year-old to make choices about which animals
they wish to keep.
