City ordinances on the Internet

By MONROE ROARK

Peachtree City's massive collection of codes and ordinances is now as close as your personal computer and Internet hookup.

The city has recently recodified its ordinances, with the final approval of the process expected to come at Thursday's City Council meeting. But citizens can now view them by clicking on a new link from the city's web site, found at http://www.peachtree-city.org/ordinanc.htm.

The Municipal Code Corporation, which compiles the city's code books, is responsible for actually putting the information on line at its own site. But it can be seen without leaving the Peachtree City web site.

The city has not had much time to get the word out yet about the new service, although some people have come across it in their usual Web surfing, according to Betsy Tyler, the city's public information specialist.

Because of that, it's far too soon to tell how much it will cut down on citizens having to come to City Hall or the library next door to physically view the code books.

“It's just one more way of making it accessible to people,” said Tyler.

Another recent feature of the city's web site is a summary of the proposed FY2000 budget, which can be accessed directly from the home page. Comparisons can be made with the current budget, which is also on the site.
