Marie Estep, principal of Western Elementary School, has been named a participant in the Governor's School Leadership Institute. The program is a three-year commitment that provides educators with leadership skills and training to help them make positive changes in Georgia's local schools. Training sessions during the first year include a six-day summer session and fall and spring sessions of two and one-half days. Second- and third-year sessions are similar. Program themes include mission and goals for the 21st century; organizational behavior; effecting change; decision making and performance development. Being selected for this institute is an honor for any school principal, and it reflects Estep's professional character and leadership skills, said an institute spokesman. Estep has been a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the Coweta County School System. She was named principal for Western Elementary School beginning the 1999-2000 school year after having served as principal at Canongate Elementary for several years.
